2024 MINETTA CHARDONNAY new release
2024 MINETTA CHARDONNAY new release
Al’s dad planted the first vines on our farm back in the early 2000s. Starting off with 4 short rows of Syrah which we can see from our back veranda. He then planted a few rows of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay that he grew from cuttings taken off a lovely friend’s vineyard who lives by the coast. These vines are named after Minetta, the sweetest vigneron and most soulful lady. A real salt of the earth character.
These vines are what gave us the confidence to expand the vineyard in 2017. They are old enough now to have their roots down deep into the subsoil and absolutely hum with vitality, producing super balanced fruit with intensity of flavour and length.
Surrounded by our fruit trees and veggie garden as well as our duck house, this little plot gets a lot of extra attention. In 2024 the fruit looked pristine and we had enough grapes (just) to make a single barrel of Chardonnay. This is the second iteration of this wine, the first being in 2021. Both were great vintages for us and the fruit quality was really high.
Picked on 28th Feb, the fruit was chilled down overnight, destemmed the following morning then basket pressed to a tank. We transferred it a couple of days later to a single barrel for fermentation taking the clean lees. After a few months in barrel we transferred the wine to tank where it spent the rest of the year settling out naturally, bottled directly from tank without s02.
With this wine, our intention is to make as transparent a record of the vintage as possible. Intervention is kept to an absolute minimum. The aim is not to shape the wine, but to preserve it while still making a wine of clarity and precision.
Nothing added. Nothing exaggerated. Just pure Chardonnay, faithfully reflecting the season and the site from which it came.
Organically farmed, made and bottled by us at our home in West Gippsland.
220 bottles filled // ABV 12% // No s02
